Privacy Policy

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name you choose. If you add your zip code, we use it to look up your USDA hardiness, AHS heat, and Sunset climate zones — we store those zones, not your precise location. You control whether zones or your city appear on your public profile.

Garden records, journal entries, photos, and care reminders you create are stored and tied to your account. Seed exchange listings are stored when you create them.

How we use your data

We use your data to operate Gardenist: to show you your gardens, generate care reminders, surface relevant plant profiles, and let you participate in the seed exchange community. We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for advertising.

Photos you upload are stored with Uploadcare and served via their CDN. Uploadcare's privacy policy governs how they handle uploaded files.

Visibility and sharing

Gardens and journal entries default to private. You can set each garden to Public (visible to everyone), Members (visible to signed-in Gardenist members), or Only you. Seed exchange listings are visible to members you match with in your exchange groups.

Your profile page at gardenist.org/u/your-username is visible according to your profile visibility setting. Climate zones and location appear only if you enable them in Settings.

Cookies and sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Analytics, if enabled, are used solely to understand how the product is used in aggregate.

Your rights

You can edit or delete your account information at any time in Settings. To request full deletion of your account and associated data, contact us at the address below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
